The case describes the management approach of Raúl Carillo, head of the Leasing Division at Grupo Mexicano de Maquinaria (GMM), a company focused on the commercialization of heavy machinery in Mexico.

Following the implementation of a workplace climate survey, significant opportunities for improvement were identified in talent management, which have negatively affected the productivity of this division—a fundamental part of GMM. Alba Zamora, Head of Human Resources, conducted a more in-depth investigation through focus groups and personal interviews with employees from the Leasing Division in order to identify the root causes of the management issues. Her findings revealed that the division had engaged in a series of questionable practices, such as a lack of development opportunities, unclear compensation policies, discrimination, and inadequate working conditions.

In an effort to address these challenges, GMM’s CEO, Ricardo Cervantes, requested that Alba develop an action plan to improve the company's talent attraction, development, evaluation, and compensation practices, with the goal of aligning them with and supporting the company’s overall corporate strategy.
